Treatment:

Step 1 : Tap the casualty's shoulder and ask, " Hello, r u ok?"

Setp 2 : Count " 1000,2000....10000", then raise hand and shout " HELP", call Ambulance 995!

Step 3 : Tongue- Jaw- Lift and dig out foreign bodies if any.

Step 4 : Head Tilt- Chin- lift, listen to breathing for 10s to determind any breathing.
  • Yes- casualty is conscious
  • No-  check pulse to make sure

Step 5 : Check the pulse rate for 10s, then ask, "Any pulse?" If No, give 1 blow and see if the chest rises. If chest does not rise, re-tilt the head and blow once. If the chest still does not rise, it means unconscious choking.

Step 6 : If choking- Proceed doing 15 compressions (thrusts) and Tongue-Jaw lift to remove foreign bodies.

Step 7 : Give 1 blow to check if anymore foreign bodies in the airway. If chest rises, continueto Step 8. If chest doesnt rise, repeat Step 6.

Step 8 : Check for pulse,the breathing. Both present,turn casualty to recovery position. If both absent, proceed to the old CPR.

Step 9: 15 compressions+ 2 blows =1 cycle, complete 4 cycles.

Step 10: Check for pulse 1st then breathing. Both present, turn the casualty to recovery position. If breathing absent, do RESCUE BREATHING (Refer to next step).

Step 11: Give 1 blow and count 2 a thousand, 3 a thousand, 4 a thousand. Repeat 12 times in a minute.

Step 12: Check for breathing. If present turn the casualty to recovery position.

Brief Intro:

Resucitation -- It is esstential to life taht oxygen and other substances taken into the body are transferred, via the bloodstram, to our cells.
After 3 mins or so of deprivation, brain function begins to fail: consciousness will be lost, breathing and the heartbeat will cease, and death may result.

The ABC of life
Airway- or air passage, must be open so that oxygen can enter the body;

Breathing- must take place so that oxygen can enter the blood-stream in the lungs;

Circulation- blood must travel ard the body, taking the oxygen to all the tissues, include the brain.

The First Aider shld know:
  • Keep the brain supplied with oxygen following the ABC of resuscitation: opening the Airway, and maintaining Breathing and Circulation.
  • Before attend the casualty, check and assess the surrounding for any unforseen dangers.
